Beef explained: What is Kanye West’s problem with GAP and Adidas?

Video by Spill Sesh

Just over a week has passed since Kanye West made his comeback to Instagram, and as usual, it’s been a wild trip. Since his comeback, the rapper has used his platform to criticize practically everyone, including Kim Kardashian, Adidas, GAP, and poor Kris Jenner, who got caught in the crossfire.

However, Adidas and GAP have been the targets of Ye’s entire rage as he has tweeted criticisms of the two apparel companies practically every day. But this isn’t the first time West has criticized the company; earlier this summer, he criticized Adidas for having slides that too closely resembled his Yeezy slides. Since then, the Grammy Award winner has only intensified and sharpened his criticisms. We’re here to explain the entire West, Adidas, GAP, and Yeezy drama, as well as what all those Instagram postings imply.

WHAT IS KANYE WEST’S BEEF WITH ADIDAS?

So, all of this conflict between West and Adidas originally came to light after the musician criticized the company for making sandals called the Adilette 22 that he said were an exact replica of his Yeezy slides. Shortly after the post was uploaded, West erased it.

Following that, everything was rather calm (by Ye’s standards, at least) until that fateful day in August, also known as Yeezy Day. When West re-entered Instagram, he said that both Yeezy Day and the sneakers that Adidas was releasing were not authorized by him. In all respect, we don’t believe he was really involved based on the terrible colorways that were revealed.

West remained silent until his second appearance in late August, when he ratcheted up the pressure by making a number of claims against Adidas. However, things really began to pick up steam on September 2. He made veiled references to Adidas officials in a seemingly endless

string of Instagram postings that were both published and removed, notably making fun of Adidas SVP Daniel Cherry III.

While West posted images of JP Morgan Chase and Adidas’ executive board (some bank executives sit on the sportswear company’s supervisory board), Kid Cudi also took a few errant shots. Additionally, he momentarily changed the Instagram profile picture on his account from the standard black circle to one of Jing Ulrich, managing director of JP Morgan. He changed it back to the black circle after that and replaced it with a picture of Adidas CCO Alasdhair Willis.

Kanye West kept posting pictures of Adidas and JP Morgan executives after venting about how Instagram was trying to delete his postings and giving us all some music advice (he labelled Wizkid’s “Essence” the “greatest song in the history of music”).

West went so far as to say that Adidas had made him a $1 billion buyout bid for his Yeezy line. He released an updated version of the Marvel Civil War meme that he posted in February to annoy Davidson as his Instagram tirade reached a fever pitch. This time, West competes against Cherry and Adidas.

WHAT IS KANYE WEST’SBEEF WITH GAP?

West argues that, similar to the Adidas catastrophe, GAP is mimicking the YEEZY GAP ENGINEERED BY BALENCIAGA (YGEBB) look in its mainline fashions. The item that got under Ye’s skin was a black GAP t-shirt that looked like it was made by West himself.

On August 31st, he shared a photograph of some neon Yeezy spectacles to Instagram with the message, “Gap convened a meeting about me without me?” Later that day, he reappeared, this time publishing a snapshot of text messages accusing GAP of copying one of his designs. West commented in the text, “This is GAP copying YGEBB.” “But they cancelled the picture shoot with my kids,” he captioned the post.

West announced on September 1st that he intends to construct his own Yeezy boutiques, despite both GAP and Adidas legally agreeing that “they will build permanent storefronts.”

An Early Look at iOS 16’s software update, with cool New Features

An Early Look at iOS 16's software update, with cool New Features

Start your iPhones, ladies and gentlemen—iOS 16 is finally out. Apple has finally made its significant new iPhone upgrade available to all supported handsets after three months of software testing. It brings a ton of brand-new, intriguing features. Some things, like the ability to modify iMessages, you may already be aware of, but not all of them. Before you download iOS 16 to your iPhone, familiarize yourself with the following 26 features.

Although all 26 of these features are included in the recently released iOS 16, not all iPhones will support them. You could notice all of these new features following the update, or just parts of them, depending on your specific iPhone. Since Apple continues to support iPhones as far back as the 8, some functions from earlier models may be removed. Here is a comprehensive list of features that are unique to particular iPhone models. Unfortunately, if your iPhone is too old, it won’t receive iOS 16 at all; but if you want these new capabilities on your iPhone, you might think about upgrading.

LETS DIG IN

WITH iOS 16 THE CUSTOMIZATION IS ENDLESS

iOS 16 Lock Screen Customize

Of course, the new lock screen customization is the iOS 16 feature that everyone is most excited about. Apple now allows users to alter the typeface and even the colour of the clock on your lock screen, departing from its custom of keeping the OS’s aesthetics fixed in a particular way.

Naturally, that is not all. One of your favorite photographs may be set as your lock screen wallpaper, or you can program it to alternate between other photos throughout the day. There is also a function that allows you to add depth to a photograph by placing the clock behind specific portions of the subject.

The lock screen contains built-in functionality for widgets, including calendar, fitness, reminders, and even third-party widgets. All notifications will now arrive from the bottom of the screen, with the option to see them in an expanded list, stack, or count view, to prevent your carefully selected lock screen from being obscured by large amounts of alerts.

iOS 16 ENHANCED CINEMATIC MODE

The tap-to-crop function in Visual Look Up is the result of machine learning, and we may anticipate using it to improve the cinematic mode. We may anticipate better cinematic mode movies because of the impending new A16 Bionic CPU and machine learning speedups. Additionally, the background blur effect will be more steady and “clipping” the subject will be more accurate. With the help of this separation technology, it would be feasible to do actions akin to portrait mode in cinematic mode, such as swapping out the background for a black one or positioning the subject in front of a white one.

Apple’s immensely handy Live Text function, which can recognize and copy text in photographs, has been enhanced to be able to do the same with movies. In addition to its other helpful features, the upgrade allows Live Text to translate text directly from images and exchange currencies.

iOS 16 FOCUS MODE UPGRADES

Additionally, focus mode now allows for greater screen customization in addition to preventing alerts. You can set up separate lock screens and home screens for each focus mode you use, each with its own set of wallpapers, widgets, and applications, if you so wish.

Prior to this, blocking alerts in focus modes was limited to certain contacts and applications. By selecting “Silence Notifications From,” you may now block specific persons or applications with iOS 16.

AUTOMATIC VERIFICATION

To combat the inconvenience of CAPTCHAs on the Internet, Apple developed Automatic Verification in collaboration with a few well-known cloud service providers. You can avoid CAPTCHAs on the majority of websites hosted on Cloudflare or Fastly, as well as on some apps that make use of the bot-sifter thanks to a feature that employs Private Access Tokens to validate your device.

VERIFICATION

After updating to iOS 16, the function appears to be switched on by default, but you can turn it off by going to Settings > Apple ID > Password & Security > Automatic Verification. Although in principle this should be a game-changer, testing revealed no differences in the applications and websites we tried, and the annoying CAPTCHA prompt was still present. Its current inability to function is unknown.

iOS 16 MESSAGES

MESSAGES

You may now mark texts as unread in Messages, which is useful if you want to study them later when you have more time. SharePlay may be opened from within Messages, enabling you to work together with other users in programs like Files, Keynote, and Notes.

However, the addition of new editing capabilities in iOS 16 Messages is the largest change. For example, if you reply to the erroneous text message, you may unsend the text message and amend it after you send it. After you’ve sent your text, you only have a little window of time to use the editing and unsending capabilities.

iOS 16 MAIL

Not just in Messages, but in iOS 16 Mail, you can now undo any sent messages that you made a mistake with. iOS 16 Mail has the same features as Gmail, including the option to schedule emails to be sent at a later time in addition to the ability to unsend emails.

iOS 16 SAFARI

With iOS 16 Safari, you can share Tab Groups with other users, expanding on the Tab Groups functionality that was first introduced with iOS 15 last year and introducing collaborative capabilities. The other significant change in iOS 16 is the introduction of passkeys, a password substitute that has to be adopted by websites and third-party apps. We did, however, talk to Apple about how passkeys enhance the password experience.

 iOS 16 MAPS

In iOS 16 Maps, additional locations will have more in-depth city maps, and you’ll be able to calculate trip costs when you plan routes using the public transit option. Even better, you can top off the balance on any transport cards you’ve saved in the Wallet app using the new Maps. However, the most significant improvement to Maps is the inclusion of multi-stop route planning while driving. In actuality, each trip allows for a maximum of 15 stops.

iOS 16 NEWS

In News, this results in a separate section featuring certain teams and displaying results, content, and video highlights. The My Sports feature, which allows users to choose preferred teams from a range of sports, is the major update to the News app.

iOS 16 FITNESS

Your movement may now be tracked without an Apple Watch. A separate fitness app that keeps track of your steps, miles traveled, and calories burned has been included in iOS 16. Fitness on the iPhone might encourage you to get up and move every day, even if it’s a scaled-down version of a comparable app accessible to Apple Watch owners.

WHAT FEATURES WON’T BE AVAILABLE IN IOS 16 WHEN IT LAUNCHES?

Apple hinted at a new iCloud Shared Photo Library in June that would make it simpler to share images with loved ones. You may share your iCloud Shared Photo Library with up to five more individuals, and each of them is able to upload new photographs and edit existing ones.

We anticipated iCloud Shared Photo Library to launch alongside the rest of iOS 16’s new features throughout the iOS 16 beta process. However, The Verge (opens in a new tab) revealed last week that iCloud Shared Photo Library wouldn’t be released today alongside the rest of iOS 16. In fact, “iCloud Shared Photo Library” is now listed. as arriving “later this year” on Apple’s iOS 16 features page (opens in a new tab).

Live Activities wouldn’t be ready along with the rest of iOS 16 was something we previously knew. This is a brand-new type of notification that informs you of current information, such as the outcome of a sporting event or the progress of a ride-sharing service that is scheduled to pick you up. Live Activities rely heavily on third parties developing new widgets using Apple’s developer tools; however, these won’t be available until after iOS 16 is released. With its Timer widget, which provides a real-time countdown on the lock screen, Apple does provide users a small glimpse of how Live Activities will function.
