The peppermint crisp tart is an iconic South African dessert. It features a creamy custard filling topped with layers of crushed peppermint crisp chocolate bars, a thick caramel sauce and freshly whipped cream. This comforting and delicious tart is sure to be a hit at any gathering!

1. Preheat the oven to 160 °C. In a large bowl, whisk together the digestive biscuit crumbs and melted butter. Press the mixture into a greased 20-cm loose-bottomed tart tin and bake for 15 minutes. Set aside to cool.

2. To make the filling, put the condensed milk, melted butter, peppermint essence, and white chocolate in a bowl and stir until combined. Spread evenly over top of the cooled biscuit base and return to the oven for 10 minutes or until lightly golden around the edges. Reserve extra chocolate chips for topping, if desired.

3. Place the tart on a cooling rack before adding extra chocolate chips (if desired). Allow to cool completely before serving, preferably overnight before refrigerating so that it sets fully!

4. Cut into slices once completely chilled through for serving with an extra sprinkle of peppermint essence and shredded chocolate/chocolate chips if desired, and enjoy!

5. For best results, store your Peppermint Crisp Tart in an airtight container in the refrigerator when not eating right away so that it won’t lose its crispness over time due to humidity exposure!

6. If you’re feeling daring, why not experiment with other flavors, such as swapping out mint extract for almond or orange extract instead? Feel free to play around with different flavorings and other toppings like nuts or dried fruits too!

7. Pairing this delicious tart with freshly brewed coffee makes one tasty treat that is sure to please any crowd of family or friends at any gathering, event, or holiday party. Enjoy!
