Virgin Active South Africa has secured a multi-year partnership with HYROX, becoming the official training and exercise partner in South Africa and a global affiliate partner. The agreement integrates HYROX into Virgin Active South Africaโs entire national footprint of 128 clubs, a first for the local fitness and wellness sector.
The collaboration positions Virgin Active South Africa at the center of one of the fastest-growing fitness race formats worldwide. It also signals HYROXโs intent to deepen its presence in South Africa, a market the company describes as one of its strongest growth territories since its first local event in September 2024.
With South Africa set to host its first 3-day HYROX race in Cape Town from 3โ5 April 2026, the partnership arrives at a pivotal moment for both brands.

What the HYROX and Virgin Active South Africa Partnership Means
All 128 Virgin Active South Africa clubs will become official HYROX-affiliated training clubs. That means standardized programming, coach education, and structured strength-and-conditioning pathways aligned to HYROX movement standards.
HYROX combines functional fitness exercises with endurance running across a standardized indoor race course. Every event globally follows the same format, allowing participants to compare times across cities and countries.
Founded in Germany in 2017, HYROX now hosts more than 90 events annually across 34 countries. The organization reports over 300,000 participants globally each year and nearly 9,000 affiliated training clubs worldwide, with ambitions to double that number in the coming years.
Cape Town 2026: The First 3-Day HYROX Event

The partnership announcement coincides with preparations for the 3โ5 April 2026 HYROX Cape Town event.
Organizers describe the three-day expansion as a response to sustained growth and strong demand following previous editions. The event will allow competitors to enter:
- HYROX Open or Pro (individual)
- HYROX Doubles or Doubles Pro
- HYROX Relay (teams of four)
Cape Town has become a focal point for the sportโs local development. By extending the event duration, organizers aim to accommodate increased athlete participation and spectator attendance.
Virgin Active South Africa is expected to support athlete preparation, recovery services, and on-site community activation throughout the weekend.
Over the next two years, Virgin Active South Africa and HYROX plan to roll out integrated training experiences, digital content, and structured club programming. For now, the immediate focus remains on Aprilโs 3-day Cape Town event, a milestone that may redefine the trajectory of competitive indoor fitness in South Africa.
