1. Big Brother Mzansi
Big Brother Mzansi is a reality show that aired in South Africa on the M-Net channel during the summer of 2014 and 2015. It was produced in collaboration with Endemol, who also produced the international versions of Big Brother. The show featured 14 housemates from different provinces throughout South Africa who were confined to a house for eight weeks as cameras followed their every move. This gave viewers an exciting and eye-opening look at life inside the Big Brother House.
2. Challenges & Tasks
Every week, housemates would complete tasks individually or as teams that tested their mental and physical strength, knowledge, and creativity to win rewards for the entire house like food, money, and other items of luxury. Alongside these tasks were weekly challenges which allowed some contestants to gain power over other contestants through game-based activities like trivia contests or obstacle courses.
3. Voting System
The viewers could get involved by voting either via SMS or online to determine which housemate stayed each week until the live finale where one housemate was crowned as the winner of Big Brother Mzansi on M-Net’s online social media platform. Viewers could also use Twitter and Facebook to post realtime comments about their favorite contestants or discuss upcoming competitions and events happening in the House with other fans around the world.
4. Controversial Topics Discussed
The show continues to be controversial due to its content that discusses topics ranging from race relations in South Africa, gender identity politics, interracial dating, drugs & alcohol abuse within society and culture, teen pregnancy, polygamy among many others that challenge traditional values and ideologies across African countries today. All these themes are explored in an entertaining yet thought provoking manner with lighthearted banter mixed into serious conversations between the participants while they experience a once in a lifetime opportunity being inside the Big Brother House!
5. After Effects of Winning
In addition to gaining immense fame through appearing on national television, winning contestants also receive major rewards such as cash prizes of up to R100 000 (USD$6700 approx), along with spending vouchers for retailers like Edgars and Foschini stores throughout South Africa valued at about R50 000 (USD$3365 approx). During seasons two through five there have been more than 100 contestants participating on this series which has received high viewership from across Sub Saharan Africa!
6. Winners Celebrated Across Africa & Abroad
From Day 1 until now all winners have been celebrated across African countries as well as by viewers abroad giving them instant celebrity status leading them into endorsements, sponsorship deals with local brands plus appearances at award ceremonies nationwide! 2017 marked a 5 year anniversary milestone for this season’s show where some previous winners got invitations onto broadcast shows including SABC 3’s Morning Live program hosted by Dr Musa Mthombeni!
7. Interesting Twist & New Changes For Upcoming Seasons
In 2020 producers made several changes introducing twists like double nominations instead of single whereby two people can be nominated making it harder for one person just dominating eviction night plus designers designing new interiors within budget restrictions creating sets viewed by millions every day! That’s right each season is unique mixing elements seen before combined with innovations too so stay tuned see what next year brings us – cheers!!
