For the first time ever, the world’s biggest club tournament, the FIFA Club World Cup 2025™ goes global with 32 of the best teams from across 6 continents battling it out in the United States. From 14 June to 13 July, fans around the world will witness elite clubs clashing for bragging rights and silverware. But for us Africans, especially South Africans, this one hits different. Why? Because Mamelodi Sundowns will be there, flying our flag.
Africa Rises with the Brazilians of Mzansi

4 African teams have qualified for this historic edition: Egypt’s Al Ahly, Morocco’s Wydad AC, Tunisia’s Espérance, and our very own Mamelodi Sundowns. Representing South Africa through the CAF ranking pathway, Sundowns will play in Group F alongside Fluminense (Brazil), Borussia Dortmund (Germany), and Ulsan Hyundai (South Korea).
It’s a tough group. No doubt. But the Brazilians of Mzansi have never backed down from a challenge. They’ve dominated the PSL, conquered the CAF Champions League, and built a squad that blends flair, tactics, and pure South African grit.

“This is a dream for every Sundowns fan, but also a chance to prove what African football is made of,” says Thabo Mokoena, a long-time supporter from Soweto. “We’re not just participating, we’re going to compete.”
Why It Matters
This tournament is bigger than club names and TV rights. It’s about global football being reshaped. For years, African clubs have had to claw for recognition. The 2025 Club World Cup gives them a global spotlight.

And with streaming rights secured through DAZN, every single match will be live and free to watch. That means fans from Cape Town to Cairo, Lagos to Nairobi can watch their teams fight it out with European giants like Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Manchester City, and PSG.
Mamelodi Sundowns’ first match will be watched by millions. For many, it might be their first time seeing a South African club outside CAF or domestic competitions.
