Everything You Need to Know About the Two Oceans Marathon

The Two Oceans Marathon, held every April, transforms Cape Town into a global location for endurance, solidarity, and spectacular beauty. Known as “The World’s Most Beautiful Marathon,” this famous event is more than just a race; it is an experience that connects strongly with both seasoned racers and enthusiastic spectators.

In 1970, a small group of 26 runners took part in the inaugural Two Oceans Marathon, unaware that they were laying the groundwork for what would become Africa’s most major  running event in terms of economic impact. The marathon now generates over R672 million in revenue for the Western Cape economy each year, with athletes and spectators coming from all over the world.

Half Marathon (21.1km):

The half marathon, introduced in 1998, has gained in popularity, providing a more  accessible but still tough event for a wider spectrum of runners.

The 2025 edition was characterized by outstanding performances and major  developments:

  • Men’s Ultra Winner: Khoarahlane Seutloali clinched victory with a time of 3:10:46.

However, the event had organizational issues, prompting discussions about the possibility  of dissolving the event’s board to maintain long-term stability.
